Katie - the 2nd built Live Steam Loco

Some time in April 2005: My father brought a small pack and unpacked it - first sprit, then steam oil and finally "Katie" - now here displayed narrow gauge steam loco. The one was completely made by his own - external frame, oscillating weights on both sides and oscillating cylinders. The boiler has a capacity of 40 ml (for 22 ml charge) - the spirit tank - used as front buffer - has a capacity of 10 ml - makes an endurance of about 10 minutes.

The original was built in England 1896 - for the Eaton Hall Railway (close to Chester / Cheshire / GB) - 4,6 miles of track between Balderton and Eaton Hall - with a branch to the brick store and estate workshop at Cuckoo's Nest. Business ceased in 1947. A new 15 inch railway, named the Eaton Park Railway was built in 1994 with a replica of Katie. It is not available for use by the public except on the various garden open days.

Katie proved capable of handling up to 40 tons on the level, or 20 tons on the gradient, at a speed of around 10mph. Pictures from earlier days prove up to 13 waggons being towed. The sides were removable to allow them to be used as flats, and fittings were supplied to carry long items such as timber. Else coal, bricks and gravel (today it would be tarmac) were hauled.

Some of these data are taken from wikipedia.org. Pictures of the original and further information are available in the Internet.
