This Bühler Transformer was available as accessory for the tracks 1420 and 1440 - even though not all 1440 layouts had the pins to plug the cables. As seen in the 1968 novelty sheet the transformer was available as socket device ....

... and as stationary / desktop device. This red version is obviously the later version - because of the better / safe packing.
