701 - Vickers "Viscount" |
|||
|

a completely new designed toy, representing the airliner Vickers "Viscount V 701". By pushing 2 levers underneath the fuselage the props start to rotate. By pushing a knob on top of the fuselage the gear could either be extended or retracted. The following company inscriptions are known: British European Airways, Trans-Canada Air Lines, Capital Airlines and Deutsche Lufthansa. This refers to published names by Biller. Further company inscriptions were: Swiss Air, KLM and PAN AM. The box always shows the same printing - the "BEA" version. The corresponding version of the content was imprinted underneath the article number. Wing inscription usually was "701" on the left wing and "N7" on the right wing - deviations described below. The Biller "B" and "Made in Western Germany" is hidden underneath the rear part of the revolver-grip on the fuselage door. Patented NOV 1955 - available until at least 1965 Seize: 230 x 240 x 65mm |

Viscount G-ALWE (the first Viscount
701 type to be manufactured) approached Manchester-Ringway Airport
following a flight from Amsterdam. After a GCA (Ground Control Approach)
approach, the aircraft broke through the lowest clouds and the crew
continued the approach visually. The approach was uneventful until it
was about 1 mile short of the runway. The aircraft was seen to enter a
shallow right descending turn with a steepening bank angle. The right
wingtip touched the ground and the aircraft crashed into houses 85yards
further on. It appeared that the aileron became locked when the no. 2
flap unit of the starboard wing moved away from the trailing edge member
following failure of a lug and bolt of the flap fitting. |

This is the remake of a Biller Vickers Viscount CAPITAL AIRLINES. | "how to handle" | ||
It was made (most probably in the 60ies) by LINE MAR TOYS of Japan. Due to the bad condition and missing cockpit I decided to use the one as "exploded model" for exhibition presentation. Even though the layout says BILLER on the top - nobody found out the truth so far. |
